Still looking at upgrading the crankset of my "grocery bike" to that of a proper road bike configuration, I've toyed around with the idea of putting in the SRAM Apex. However, the cost is prohibitive at this time, so it has to take a backseat.
My internet search for a water bottle led me to discover the Elite brand from France. Hunting who the distributor is yielded Unison which in turn led me to The Brick Multisport shop as one of the resellers. Because Mike is at St. Luke's, I dragged him off to the store at McKinley.
I was so disappointed that The Brick has very limited stocks of Elite products and as we're just looking around what the store has to offer, we saw a used SRAM Rival crankset. I asked Leroy how much is he willing to let it go for and I was elated when he said "5K."
I took it to Life Cycle Bicycle Store and asked Percy for a chain suitable to the Rival.
PC1031 chain
I cannot contain my excitement while watching Mang Boy perform the surgery when he delivered the bad news...
Firstly, the chainring is too big and will hit the chainstay. Mang Boy moved one of the spacer from the non-drive side and we can see from the photo how close it is. But it'll work.
Just barely...
Secondly, the non-drive side shoulder is now too short and the crank arm will hit the chainstay. Putting in a spacer to move the arm further away from the chainstay won't let enough "grip" with the spindle anymore.
I felt like a candle doused with a bucket of water and we have to accept the sad fact... It won't work.
