It's been a while since my last ride to Antipolo that I kinda hate because of the idiots plying the roads along Marcos Highway and up Antipolo. Today is a good day to ride the route again as we expect a lot less vehicles.
I took the V1-r as this is the setup that gives me more gears, at the same time I'd like to put further mileage to the Continental Sprinter Gatorskin tubular tires on the Reynolds Assault SLG wheelset.
The ride up to Antipolo was uneventful and I am thankful I was able to negotiate the route without stopping and with cleats on! After a brief stop at the top we headed further to hinulugang Taktak. There were a lot of people queueing to get wet.
This stretch of road called Daang Bakal offers gradual ascent and would be very good for someone into training. Sadly, this is too far from me.
The scenery is pretty good too, and there are lots of Eucalyptus trees around.
There were lots of bikers in the area so I tried to find a place where it would look serene and peaceful.
We continued our ride to Marikina as Eric needs to be home early, so we rode with him to his house where we had a bit of rest and lots of water. From here, the plan is to go to UP via Katipunan Extension but I had to deal with this section heading to H. Ventura called the Balara Climb. It is not high in terms of elevation, but very short which make it difficult.
We finally arrived at UP and as we circled the oval figuring out where to eat, I rested the bike, err the rider and took this photo.
Carlo finally found the street perpendicular to A. Roces and parallel to P. Valenzuela where small tuto-turo are lined up but all of them are closed except for this one that specializes in Longganisa. We ordered four different types (only thee in the picture as the last one was served late) and they were pretty good.
After the breakfast, we headed back to Greenmeadows via Teacher's Village, Xavierville, J.P. Rizal, then Katipunan. I like this route, perhaps we should do a longer version of it when the opportunity presents itself, i.e., another long holiday.
My Garmin Edge 25 made it through and didn't give me trouble this time around. I am also pleased with the performance of the Continental Sprinter Gatorskin. It was a good day for cycling indeed.
