BGC Cycle Philippines 2016

November 20, 2016

This is only my second time to participate in the Cycle Asia event with the same goal, to finish the ride in time.

My ride groups failed to get the 3+1 promo and we ended up registering individually. Let me talk about the ride kit, as I've seen a few complaints online. The ride kit includes the excellent F2P jersey, the timing chip and riders stickers, and finally the freebies.

I participated in the event for the experience and not to "maximize" the P2,600 participation fee therefore, whatever is included in the ride kit is moot and academic. I can buy authentic Giant jerseys for P1,500 and spend the P1,100 change for a nice dinner. It's being with friends, at least at the start line and finish line.

I arrived "late" at the start line today, so there's no early bird photo. I picked the Eddy Merckx Blockhaus 67 as my weapon of choice. Just like before, I started my Garmin Edge 25 early and on release of our wave, I forgot to resume and that's the reason why it read less than 40km at finish.

It was a good ride and I tried to beat my previous 40km pace which I think I did, but I have yet to see the official timing results. I'm not racing anybody, but myself so I'm pretty pleased with the achievement.

I am really pleased with what the Blockhaus 67 have become. What started as an entry level bike now has full Ultegra upgrade and performed well.
