This was a project of Lito Vicencio which was organized just days before the actual ride. I didn't think twice in participating in this event as it's a more fruitful way of spending Holy Week.
This is my first bike from home ride so with some excitement, I headed to the meet-up point at the Ayala Triangle (just my second time here) where I was surprised to see two bicycle racks and even bicycle path, but I digress.
Participants started arriving and I was also able to put faces to the names I see at a couple of bicycle-related Facebook groups.
The RLT 9 from Niner is well represented!
We finally took off via Buendia then Roxas Boulevard to Philippine General Hospital Cancer Charity Ward. It took us a while to get to the building that houses the charity ward but the guards were helpful and we finally was led to it.
We got the bags of supplies and food and we went up to the second floor where the adults and children are currently confined.
There are no photos of the sick to respect their privacy. The first room I went into is where an old woman is confined, and she's alone. I don't want to put drama into this blog post but I felt weak and nearly cried. We made the rounds to each and every room and it is hard to bear the sight my eyes laid upon.
We have more donations than available patients as we were told some of them "checked out" and I hope they checked out well, so we left the remaining packages to the nursing station as we went on our way out of the facility.
As we ride out, we were hoping that some restaurants are open and thankfully, Cafe Adriatico is so we were able to have breakfast. I love eggs so I ordered the prawns omelette.
Half of the bikes adorne the facade of Cafe Adriatico.
After the breakfast and other photo opportunies, we headed back to Makati. Here's a photo taken of the volunteers while we were at the hospital. (c) James Rosca
For this ride, I simply used my iPhone to record the Strava activity as my Edge 25 didn't have enough charge from yesterday's ride.
