Excited to test the new Shimano Deore XT components I installed previously, I am eager for a live test. While it rained the night before, previous experience at the Fort Bonifacio Bike Trail kept me in positive spirits so I hit the trail anyway.
I got there to find out that only I and a dog is at the trail. I unloaded the bike anyway and had it assembled.
As usual, I took stage 3 for the warm up and I slowly but sure found out that I'm in a different predicament. The mud is in a condition where it's like wet cement that has been scooped by my tires which is then molded to perfection that covered them entirely so I'm slipping and the mud is not being displaced by wheel spin. In fact, it was like "the Blob" that is starting to consume my bike as it has made its way and has blocked the drivetrain.
I knew it will be impossible to continue so I dismounted and since the wheels literally don't turn anymore, I started to take the bike off the trail and into the grass when I slipped and sprained my ankle.
It was painful and I'm alone so very slowly and methodical, I tried to get out of what now seems to be hell and on to the road at the cemetery which is cemented.
I finally got to the road and I rested the bike and myself for a moment, as I gaze at the bike and question my stupidity.
It was painful walking so I decided to pedal it back to the parking area where I find two bikers are arriving and in seconds, it rained.
I started removing all the mud I possibly can and in the process, I can't believe what I have accumulated on the bike. So now, I have a muddy bike and a sprained ankle.
