A taste of Sierra Madre

December 3, 2016

My car club's annual outreach program returns to Rehoboth Childrens Home in Tanay, Rizal and I took the opportunity to have a "taste of Sierra Madre."

I learned that the group's meetup is at 8am so I decided to go early and find a ride. Since the plan was to have lunch at Paseo Rizal, I parked there and after having a cup of coffee, I prepped the Blockhaus 67 for the ride.

Initially, I planned to ride up to Sierra Madre Hotel, then to Rehoboth but I ended up going down to Rehoboth instead. It was raining and at about 2.5km away from Paseo Rizal, I noticed that the road is mostly downhill. I thought that I may not be able to go back so I decided to turn around and climb my way back. I feel pretty good and now getting dried from the sun so I thought of just pedalling until I get tired because it will be easy to come back to Paseo because I'd be rolling downhill.

I passed by Paseo Rizal and continued pedalling, I'm loving it in fact except for the very strong winds. I hit about 42 km/h at one point and I can really feel the interference the crosswind brings. I passed by Martessem and Camp Capinpin and when my Garmin Edge 25 registered 10km, I decided to go back. Every time there's an open area the crosswinds can be felt from both sides and even underneath. I got the scare of my life when I was rolling at nearly 40 km/h when suddenly I got hit and the font end of my bike wobbled. Thankfully, I was able to regain control and that when I reduced my speed to like 15 km/h until I got back to Paseo Rizal.

At this point, it started to rain again so I immediately put the bike inside and took shelter while I reminisce the experience. I synced with Garmin Connect and Strava and while waiting for Relive to send me the email, I heard engine rumble and the lead Subaru Society cars just passed me by. I immediately strapped myself in and drove to the destination.

Like past outreach programs we have Jollibee for the kids' entertainment.

After the program, we headed out to Martessem instead of Paseo Rizal for lunch.

Unfortunately, the food was devoured before anybody thought of taking photos. I did at the last minute, but they don't look "food photography" worthy anymore. We ordered Chicken Binakol (I liked this a lot), Chili Shrimps (which is NOT spicy), Crispy Pata (Victoria Court's version is better), Pancit (just ok), Fried Chicken (I didn't get to taste it), Spicy Chicken (I think it was, and I kinda liked it)
